Young Artists Program

Nurturing Talented Young Singers

Launched in 2015, Oratorio Chorale’s Young Artists Program nurtures the musical and expressive skills of exceptional young singers in southern Maine. The Young Artists Program provides an opportunity for talented high school students to tackle advanced choral repertoire in a supportive environment. Up to six students are accepted into the program per year.

Participation in YAP includes:

  • Bi-weekly voice lessons with the OC artistic staff

  • One master class per year with a visiting professional soloist

  • Free OC membership, including payment of membership dues and music fees

Graduates of the Young Artists Program have gone on to attend Yale University, Bryn Mawr College, University of Maine, Bowdoin College, Ithaca College, Grinnell College, Wheaton College, and St. John College.

What Our Students Are Saying

“I'm extremely grateful for the great opportunity that has been given me in the shape of the Young Artists Program. It is very apparent to me how much I've grown as a musician with Oratorio… (it is) a hugely formative and inspiring experience.”

“I was able to sing and explore music there that would otherwise have been unavailable to me—Mendelssohn, Nico Muhly, Dvorak and so much more. This music was challenging and exciting, and forced me to grow as a musician, and would have been completely out of reach for me (as a highschooler) without Oratorio Chorale's Young Artists Program.”

“The voice lessons that the program provided helped me realize that I want to sing classical music at a professional level. I count the Young Artists Program as one of the primary reasons that I am now studying voice in college.”
