While not officially part of the Chorale's program, once every year or so, members of the Oratorio Chorale come down off the risers,
climb out of their penguin suits, and otherwise let down their hair to put on an exceptional
evening of the music of their choosing. The pieces are selected, rehearsed, and performed by
Chorale
members who want the opportunity to show what they can do vocally on their own
or in small groups. They must audition their selections before a discerning committee of their
peers in order to gain a slot on the program. And local music reviewers
have been uncommonly generous in their praise of past
recitals.
The eclectic program consists of accompanied and a cappella solos,
duets, trios, and small groups, performing everything from show and folk tunes to arias
and art songs. Also featured will be a few instrumental
surprises!
The accompanist for
the evening is Ben Heller.
There
will also be a reception during the intermission, featuring the culinary
creations of members of the Chorale. Donations to help defray the costs of
the recital and further the Chorale's outreach activities would be well-received at the door ($10 is suggested).
Once again this year, proceeds from the recital will benefit
the Carolyn Johnson memorial fund.
