The
Oratorio Chorale has delighted audiences along the coast of Maine for
more than 30 years with programs of music ranging from the Renaissance
to the 20th Century. An auditioned chorus of more than 60 members based
in Brunswick, the Oratorio Chorale draws talented singers from Portland
to Waldoboro.
Each
concert season we present a diverse selection of quality classical
music from a variety of periods. Our performances include
major works accompanied by the Maine Chamber Ensemble and professional guest soloists. We also perform with piano accompaniment and a cappella, and members of the chorus often have an opportunity to sing solos.
Recent performances have included Haydn's
Creation, masses by Mozart, Bruckner, and Dvorak, Bach cantatas, Brahms'
Neue Liebeslieder, Trois Chansons by both Ravel and Debussy, Thompson's
Frostiana, and rarely heard surprises such as Davies' Prayers from the Ark, Argento's
Peter Quince at the Clavier, and Carter's Defense of Corinth featuring the men's chorus.
In addition to three concerts per season, our musical year includes a June recital in which individuals and small ensembles step into the spotlight for a wide-ranging program of personal favorites. Past recitals have featured everything from American and international folk music to operatic arias to Broadway hits.
